About
I have been around boats from an early age. In 2007 I became a yacht owner buying a blue water 47 foot sailing ketch with my wife. Since having the vessel, we have completed two major refits and sailed over 20,000 nautical miles.
My training as a surveyor included completing the practical Marine Survey Training Course in Ipswich and shadowing an established surveyor in 2020.
Survey Types
Pre-Purchase Survey
This is an essential survey when purchasing a vessel. Commissioned by a potential buyer, it comprises of a comprehensive study and assessment of the vessel providing the buyer a report which may be used for negotiation and insurance.
Insurance Survey
This survey is commissioned by the owner of a vessel when their insurance company have requested a survey for the renewal or an application for a new insurance policy. A full report is provided detailing the condition and safety of the vessel.
Damage Survey
Commissioned by an insurance company, this survey acts to provide the evidence of loss or damage to a vessel.
Valuation
As an addition to a Pre-Purchase or Insurance survey, this is an inspection to ascertain the value of a vessel. To provide a market value other vessels are studied and an assessment is made.
